il y a pas question, à mon avis, de vraiment ‘traduire’ Heraclite, il faut lui comprendre en totalité et puis jeter ces mots transfigurés dans l’eau qui coule, le feu qui brûle

Ergens in het midden op mijn miserabele Pad van de Wenende Nacht – geen idee welke bocht – kwam ik plots weer Heraclitus tegen. Er hing vocht op zijn wang. Zijn befaamde aforismen waren hem middels kromme, roestige nagels door het lijf, de armen, de romp, ja zelfs door de tong geschoten. Praten kon hij niet meer. Hij gebaarde, &  ik deed alsof ik het begreep.

Het waren tekens, Griekse letters,  dat zag ik wel. Maar ik begreep nauwelijks Grieks & de letters waren in & rondom hem verworden tot stromen, waar je wel kon induiken, maar het waren nooit dezelfde stromen, hoewel het steeds dezelfde tekens waren.

Hoe kan ik je helpen, vroeg ik hem?

Help jezelf, gebaarde hij.

I collect them here and perhaps the thing will expand in numerous directions. Or someone might come up with an antidote.
